During the miscarriage of our first child, I was lost. I wanted to know why it was happening to me. What did I do wrong? All I ever wanted was to be a mom. Since I was a very little girl, my biggest goal in life was to be a mom. So why? What was the purpose in losing my child? The child we were naming. The child with whom we were making plans. The child with whom we already made a connection. We had so many hopes and dreams for our little one.
Throughout the entire journey of our miscarriage, I kept asking why. No one had answers, so I prayed. Though I never received a direct answer, God reassured me that he has plans for me and they are good. He never brings us harm but instead will give us hope and a future if we rely on him (Jeremiah 29:11). I don’t know what those plans look like but I do know I must fully trust him.
I needed to know what God said about the situation I was going through and the only way I could learn was through his word. So, I opened my Bible and began to search. Even though the Bible doesn’t say the words miscarriage or pregnancy loss, I was able to find comfort in the promises he gives us throughout the scriptures.
I then took those verses and created a book. This is the book I wish I had during my pregnancy loss. A book that was rooted in truth, was comforting and would help bring me to a place of healing. With the support of Amy Mangum Larson (illustrator) and Angela Woerner (Editor), Align Our Hearts: A Devotional for Pregnancy Loss was born.
This book is a devotional with 31 different scriptures, a journal, and a coloring book. Amy created beautiful & meaningful coloring book style illustrations for this book. The hope is for the illustrations to be used in a way that would allow time to meditate on scripture and for a time to reflect.
There is space after each daily devotional to write down thoughts, prayers, questions, etc. There is also space at the end of the book with larger spaces specifically meant for journaling. There are many helpful questions listed on these pages for you to ponder or respond to right on the page.
To all of the moms and dads who have, or are currently experiencing, pregnancy or infant loss, my heart goes out to you. This book is dedicated to our sweet little one and also to you. Most importantly, I want you to know:
You are not alone.
You have people praying for you.
Both you and your baby are loved.
Your baby truly matters.
